The world-famous tenor, Rolando Villazón, is a true phenomenon, an untamed natural element, “the most charming of today’s divos” (the London Times). He ranks among the most versatile artists whose career has encompassed the achievements of a dazzling opera and concert singer, a brilliant communicator, a witty writer, and since 2011 also an inventive opera stage director. A native of Mexico City, he is the holder of many prestigious awards and honours, including the title Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres from France which has become his second home.
Rolando’s relationship with Prague has been marked by great mutual affection: since 2012 he has kept returning to this city on regular invitations from Nachtigall Artists, each time bringing a new original programme. This time out, he has prepared a project entitled Across Latin America, sharing the platform with phenomenal harpist Xavier de Maistre. Formerly a member of the Vienna Philharmonic, Xavier de Maistre set out on an independent path as a soloist, focusing in his pursuits on the continuous exploration of new performing possibilities and repertoire options for this remarkable instrument. Among his other exploits so far has been an acclaimed harp arrangement of Smetana’s Vltava from the symphonic cycle Má vlast, and its fascinating interpretation which belies the fact that the composition was originally written for large symphony orchestra.
